Corrections.

An error is not quietly overwritten here. It is corrected, dated and made visible.

Reporting an error

Write to the address given on the Contact page. What helps: the address of the page concerned, the sentence objected to and, where available, the source that speaks against it. Reports about evidence take priority over everything else.

Deadlines

Processing deadlines from receipt of a report that can be followed up.
Type of errorResponse
Safety-relevant statement, emergency guidancereviewed immediately, page temporarily toned down in case of doubt
Misreported study statementwithin 5 working days
Wrong or dead source referencewithin 10 working days
Spelling, wording, layouton an ongoing basis, without a separate entry

What a correction contains

  • the date of the correction
  • the version of the page
  • the element corrected
  • the reason for the correction
  • the effect on the conclusion, named explicitly
  • the responsible body
  • the source that triggered the correction

Where a correction changes the conclusion of a page, it is flagged at the head of the page concerned and not merely listed here.

Retracted publications

If a work we have cited is retracted or has a warning attached to it, we review every page that uses it. Where the statement no longer holds without that source, it is removed or weakened. The process is documented here.
